We had this approved by the Secretary of State August 27, 2011.
Start Circulating: April 1 of the year preceding the general election
Signatures Needed: 2% of the total number of votes cast for U.S. Representative in the last general election (In 2010, this was 4,988 signatures) [22-4-402 (a-d)]
Filing Deadline: Not later than June 1 in any general election year -File with the Secretary of State[22-4-402 (a-d)]
Write-in candidate:
Each person requesting to have all votes cast for him as a write-in candidate counted, shall file an application for candidacy together with the appropriate filing fee with the appropriate filing officer not later than two (2) days after the election in which the person desires to have the write-in votes counted [22-5-501(a)].
General ballot access for independent candidates:
Petition for Nomination of Independent Candidates for Partisan Office
Start Circulating:Only during the calendar year of the election [22-5-305(a)]
Signatures Needed: 2% of the votes cast for US Representative in the last general election. (In 2010, this was 4,988 signatures) [22-5-304]
Filing Deadline: Not less than 70 days before a general election file with Secretary of State and with the county clerk [22-5-307] with a filing fee [22-5-306(b)] and list of qualified nominees for presidential electors [22-19-102(b)]
General ballot access for minor parties:
Placed on ballot by party convention [22-4-303]
Notice of Convention:File with the secretary of state and of each county clerk not later than twenty (20) days before the convention. The notice shall state the eligibility requirements for voting at the convention. [22-4-307]
Filing Deadline:No later than the day before the primary election [22-4-304]. In 2012, the Primary will be August 21. AND Not later than thirty (30) days following termination of the state convention [22-4-305], File certificates of nomination for candidates and electors [22-19-102(a)] and bylaws with the Secretary of State [22-4-305]
General ballot access for major parties:
Party received 10% of the votes in the last gubernatorial, Secretary of State or US House of Representatives election [22-1-102(xviii)]-files a certificate of nomination with the Secretary of State no later than 30 days following the state convention [22-19-102 (a)]
Filing fees:Same fee required for the same office of candidates seeking nomination by primary election [22-5-306(b)] $200 for statewide offices [22-5-208(a)(ii)]
Last day to withdraw from the ballot: no statute
