Getting on the Ballot for 2012
Sign Up to be an Elector: Party nominations of candidates for the office of elector of president and vice president of the United States, one for each congressional district and two at large, shall be made by the state committee. [§ 6-102]

Other Information: The name of a party shall be in the English language and shall not include the words “American”, “United States”, “National”, “New York State”, “Empire State”, or any abbreviation thereof, nor the name or part of the name, or an abbreviation of the name, of an existing party. [§ 2-124(2)]
Designating Petitioning Signatures A signature made earlier than thirty-seven days before the last day to file designating petitions for the primary election shall not be counted. [§ 6-134 (4)]
Signatures Needed: 15,000 signatures, at least 100 signatures
must come from each of 16 congressional districts. [§ 6-136 (1)]
A designating petition shall be filed not earlier than the tenth
Monday before, and not later than the ninth Thursday preceding the primary
election.[§ 6-158 (1)]
Creating a state committee:
Filing Deadline: not later than seven weeks preceding the general [§ 6-128 (2)]
Major Party Qualifications:
Received 5% of the votes cast in the last gubernatorial election.
General ballot access for independent candidates:
Petition: 15,000 signatures, at least 100 signatures
must come from each of 16 congressional districts [§ 6-142 (1)]
A signature made earlier than six weeks prior to the last day to file
independent petitions shall not be counted. [§ 6-138 (4)]
Deadline: A petition for an independent nomination for an office to be filled at the time of a general election shall be filed not earlier than twelve weeks and not later than eleven weeks preceding such election.[§ 6-158 (9)]
Last day to withdraw from the ballot: withdrawal not permitted
Primary date: Not yet known. In 2008, it was held first Tuesday in February. In 2004 it was held first Tuesday in March [§ 8-100]

Write-In Information
The candidate will need to submit a “certificate of candidacy” which may be drawn up by, and must be signed by the candidate. The “certificate” must contain the following:
• Name and address of presidential candidate
• Name and address of vice-presidential candidate
• Name and address of at least one elector
The certificate should be accompanied by, and make reference to the following:
• a signed “certificate of acceptance” from vice-presidential candidate – needs to be NOTARIZED
• a signed “certificate of acceptance” from at least one elector – needs to be NOTARIZED
