Major party qualifications:
Has more than 5% of the total registered voters in the state [97.021]
Primary ballot access:
Party submits candidate list to the Secretary of State by December 31 [9-103.101(2)(a)]
General ballot access for major or minor party candidates:
Party is affiliated with a "national party" holding a national convention
Party submits the name of the candidate and a list of electors to the Department of State. Note: the term "national party" means a political party established and admitted to the ballot in at least one state other than Florida.
Deadline: Prior to September 1 [103.021(4a)]
Party is not affiliated with a national party holding a national convention
Petition: 1% (in 2004, this was approximately 93,023 signatures) of the registered electors of the state [103.021(4b)]
No signature shall be counted toward the number of signatures required unless it is on a petition form prescribed by the division. [99.097(3a)]
The supervisor shall be paid in advance the sum of 10 cents for each signature checked or the actual cost of checking such signature, whichever is less OR upon written certification of such inability (to pay the fee) given under oath to the supervisor, be entitled to have the signatures verified at no charge. [99.097(4)]
Petition process in lieu of a qualifying fee and party assessment:
Signatures may not be obtained until the candidate has filed the appointment of campaign treasurer and designation of campaign depository pursuant to s. 106.021 and are valid only for the qualifying period immediately following such filings. [99.095(2a)]

Write-In Information
A presidential write-in candidate may have a blank space provided on the general election ballot for his/her name to be written in if:
1) The candidate files an Oath of Candidate (Form DS-DE 85) with the Division of Elections between 8 a.m., July 1 and Noon, July 8, 2008.
Form DS-DE 85 may be downloaded from the Division of Elections website at: http://election.dos.state.fl.us/forms/pdf/DSDE85.pdf
2) Not later than August 29, 2008, the candidate submits a list containing the names and addresses of 27 persons to serve as electors to the Department of State.
NO NOTARIZATIONS REQUIRED.
The Oath of Candidate form must be filled out and signed by both Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates.
